Government distributes 17 vehicles to selected second cycle schools in Central Region

Cape Coast,- The Government through the Ministry of Education (MoE) has distributed 17 vehicles to selected second-cycle schools in the Central Region to aid effective running of the schools.

The donation formed part of the Government’s efforts to strengthen the education sector by providing basic logistics to enhance effective teaching and learning.

The 17 vehicles donated by the GETFUND, comprised of eight 64- seater buses with full air conditioners and nine pickups.

Beneficiary schools including, Gomoa Gyama Senior High School (SHS), Assin Manso SHS, Abakrampa SHS, Jukwa SHS, Adankwaman SHS, Awutu Bawjiase SHS, and Obiri Yeboah SHS took the buses.

Other schools, which received the pickups were St Augustine’s College, Mfantsipim, Gyaase SHS, Fettehman SHS, Ogyeedom SHS, Nyankomasi Ahenkro SHS, Assin State College, Swedru SHS, and Morkwa SHS.

At a short handing over ceremony, Mr Benjamin Kwasi Asare, the Regional Planning Officer of the GES on behalf of the Regional Director of GES, said the donation would help in the smooth running of the schools.

The education reforms, he noted, could not be achieved without the provision of the necessary logistics to enhance effective delivery of their mandate to the Ghanaian child.

Mr Asare said some schools in the Region had challenges in the execution of administrative functions and that the donation would go a long way to address the problems.

He expressed gratitude to the Government for the gesture and pledged their commitment towards using the vehicles for the intended purposes and implored the beneficiary schools to adopt proper maintenance culture for the vehicles to be available at all times.

Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, the Regional Minister, said the vehicle came at a time the RCC was spearheading the transformation agenda of education.

She charged the schools to make use of the vehicles to improve teaching and learning and also make the bus available to the students when needed.

Mrs Assan said the government was eager not only to ensure that there was access but the provision of the needed logistics and the right environment to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the country.

The Minister stressed the need for the headteachers to ensure the vehicles were properly maintained, to prolong the life span.

Mrs Assan pledged the RCC’s unwavering commitment to support schools to ensure students get the best education to help them achieve their ambition and goals in life.

Receiving the Vehicles, Madam Cecilia Adjo Wofesor, the immediate past Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in the Region, thanked the Government and appealed for more as a lot of schools were in dire need of vehicles to facilitate their work.
