God inspired President Akufo-Addo for National Cathedral Project-Bono Minister

Sunyani,– The Almighty God, creator of the universe inspired President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lead Ghanaians to build the National Cathedral as a unifying monument of significance, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister has stated.

She particularly, commended the Christian and Muslim Communities and corporate bodies in the country for not only accepting and contributing to make the President’s vision a reality, but shaping it to reflect its current national status.

Mad. Owusu-Banahene made the statement when she launched the regional fund-raising campaign in Sunyani in aid of the construction of the facility.

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but it is a reproach to the people”, the Bono Minister indicated, and underlined the need for everybody to accept and contribute to the fund.

“God is watching us from heaven as we mobilise resources to build this great facility in honour of Him and to push the advancement of His Kingdom, so we must not disappoint Him because He has truly been faithful to us as a nation”, Mad Owusu-Banahene stated.

On completion, she said the national monument would provide a historic opportunity to put God at the centre of the nation’s affairs and serves as a symbol of “our eternal and continuing gratitude to God for the favours that He continues to shower and bestow on us”.

The national cathedral, Mad Owusu-Banahene explained, would not only serve religious purposes, but further offer historians and interpreters of Christianity in non-western contexts an opportunity to retell the contribution of Ghana to the history of Christianity in Africa.

She said it would remain a great disservice to God, if Ghanaians failed to support and contributed to the building of the facility, indicating anybody who would donate to the project would be blessed here and hereafter.

Right Reverend Festus Yeboah-Asuamah, the Anglican Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of the region for their contributions to the fund so far.

The Anglican Bishop, also the Chairman of the Bono Regional Fund Raising Committee of the National Cathedral Project emphasised no contribution was small and appealed to everybody to support the construction of the facility.

The state-of-the-art project, proposed by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led Administration in 2017, is being constructed to provide space for national events.

As a national monument, the Cathedral would house chapels and baptistery, 5,000 capacity-seater main auditorium, expandable to 20,000 people for national events and celebrations.

It would include among others, a grand central hall, a music school and would house Africa’s first-ever Bible Museum, Biblical Garden and documentation centre.

The project would also bequeath to the country a gracious national park for all Ghanaians, bring new skills, technology and jobs to the country, and will act as a beacon to national, regional and international tourists.
