Accra, Feb. 09, GNA- An Adenta Circuit Court has given a five-year jail term to Seth Ahiable, a food vendor, for breaking into the offices of Proxynet Communication Limited, an Information Technology firm at Otinshe, near East Legon, Accra and stealing some gadgets.
Ahiable and three other accomplices, namely Francis Duyor, aka “Wales”, Dickson Mortey and Daniel Brainy, all at large, made away with IT equipment such as Conference Cameras, HP Laptops, Microphone Pods, and webcam worth thousands of cedis.
Ahiable pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, stealing and unlawful entry.
According to the court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah, the accused person’s explanation confirmed his plea of guilt.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, the prosecutor, said the complainant was Constantine Olukweku, the Country Manager, Proxynet Communication Limited.
The prosecution said on November 1, last year, when the complainant reported to work, he was informed by a member of staff that the office’s storeroom had been broken into and the above-mentioned items stolen.
It said a report was made to the Police for investigations.
The prosecution said on January 21, this year, the complainant was browsing on Jiiji, an online market platform and he came across one Logitech Rally Mic Pod, displayed by one Ransford Kwame Asare and he called the said Asare.
It said the complainant feigned interest in buying the item and he asked Asare to provide him with the serial number of the gadgets.
The prosecution said Asare texted the serial number to the complainant and when he checked on their system, it marched with the stolen one.
It said the Police was informed, and Asare was asked to bring the item to East Legon for payment.
The prosecution said when Asare showed up, he was nabbed and during interrogation, he mentioned Ahiable as the one who gave him the gadget to sell for him.
It said Ahiable was also arrested, and he led the Police to where he resided as a caretaker.
The prosecution said a Rally camera, a speaker, a Logitech webcam, and two Rally Mic Pods were retrieved.
The prosecution said Ahiable mentioned his accomplices as Duyor, Mortey and Brainy.
It said Mortey’s cousin also brought a webcam, a USB charger, and Mic Pod to the Police.
According to prosecution, on January 28, this year, Ahiable’s mother also brought some of the stolen items to the Police, saying they were found in bags of charcoal that she had displayed on sale.
