Dome (Near Maame Krobo), — Mr William Nyarko Frimpong, the Educational Director of Kwawu Afram Plains South District in the Eastern Region, has called on the government and stakeholders to provide educational infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning in the district.
He said the district lacked the educational infrastructure for effective teaching and learning.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Maame Krobo on the sidelines of a donation made by GoldenEd, a nonprofit organization, to some schools in the district, Mr Frimpong said most of the schools lacked furniture and classroom blocks to make teaching and learning convenient for both teachers and pupils.
“Some of the schools have more than 100 pupils instead of 50 in a classroom which makes it difficult for the pupils to learn,” he added.
Mr Frimpong noted that most of the communities did not have housing facilities for teachers, making the teachers move from far distances to school.
He said when the problems were resolved, it would help the Education Directorate and the teachers to do their best towards teaching and learning.
He, therefore, appealed to the Kwawu Afram Plains South District Assembly, the Government, Non-Governmental Organizations, Corporate Institutions Benevolent Individuals, and all stakeholders to come to the aid of the District Education Directorate to ensure quality teaching and learning.
Meanwhile, some of the teachers in the district told the GNA that teaching in such deprived communities was unpleasant as they lacked basic textbooks to teach and did not have a good place to lay down their heads.
Mr Kennedy Asiamah Mawufemor, a pupil-teacher at Nsogyaso D/A Basic School near Maame Krobo, told the GNA that the school was one of the deprived ones in the district as it lacked desks for the pupils to sit on for academic work.
Mr Asiamah noted that there are no tables in the classrooms as well as textbooks making it very difficult to teach.
