E-Levy is a thought-through budget proposal; it will address demand for development – Dan Botwe

The Minister of Local Government, Mr. Dan Kwaku Botwe has called for support for the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) with the argument that it will address the demand for development.

Speaking at a mini durbar to climax the Annual Odwira Festival of the chiefs and people of Adukrom in the Okere District of the Eastern Region, the Minister said if implemented, e-Levy would help the government to construct more roads, schools and more hospitals in the country.

“The E-Levy is a thought-through budget proposal to meet the huge demands of development,” Mr. Dan Botwe who is also Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency said.

The Local Minister continued, “The demand for good roads, schools, and hospitals amidst the huge burden of ensuring that there are job opportunities for the young ones far outweigh similar demands in my days as a youth and we, as a people must all come to that realisation.”

The E-Levy is a proposal in the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy proposal of the ruling government.

When approved, the government will charge 1.75 per cent tax on all financial transactions done electronically.

The levy will affect mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchant payments, as well as inward remittances.
