Bogoso-Prestea Mine Workers Union establishes educational endowment fund for Appiatse community 

Appiatse (W/R),-Bogoso-Prestea Mine Workers Union has established an educational endowment fund of US$10,000.

00 to help promote education in the Appiatse community.

The fund will support pupils and students, who lost their caregivers in the Appiatse explosion on January 20.

In addition, the group also donated assorted products worth US$15,000.00 to the community. The products include a 65-inch television set, cooking utensils, plastic chairs, sanitary pads, pillows, toiletries, among others.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after the donation, Mr Frederick Kwame Ofosu Tinkorang, Acting General Manager of Future Global Resources, said the widowsmite  was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the residents of Appiatse.

He said, “although our parent company would support the displaced persons at Appiatse, we the workers have decided to help alleviate the pain and suffering of the community members”.

“When the explosion occurred at Appiatse on Thursday, January 20, 2022, we were the first group of people to come to the scene. We started the rescue operation with our team and fire tender,” the Acting General Manager said.

“We then realised that the main road was blocked and had to use our Mine equipment to construct a bypass and later contacted Dumasi community to secure a temporary place for the victims to reside,” Mr Tinkorang added.

Mr Samuel Kumi Manu, General Secretary for Bogoso Gold Enterprise Base Union, Senior Staff Union for the Mine, said, “the unfortunate incident directly impacted our workers, so we decided to contribute our daily wage to support the sustenance and livelihood of our people who have been affected.”

He entreated his fellow workers and other Mine Companies to learn from their goodwill and try to be involved in any form of developmental agenda in their respective communities.

Mr Robert Gyamfi, Environment and Community Relations Manager for the Mine, stated that “a needs assessment was carried out before we secured these items for the Appiatse community which forms part of our operational area.”

He added that “As workers, we felt that we should do our part to relieve the victims of some of their burdens”.

Mr Gyamfi urged the beneficiaries who would be considered for the education endowment fund to concentrate on their books to achieve higher laurels.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley, Dr Isaac Dasmani and Divisional Chief of Beppoh, Nana Atta Kwadwo Bremebi II, who received the items on behalf of the community, expressed appreciation to the donors for their generosity.
