Sekondi: The Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), a consultancy firm, has handed over a site for work to commence on the rehabilitation of a three-unit office complex for the Western Regional office of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sekondi. The project, with auxiliary facilities including washrooms, would be undertaken by Brison Construction, with funding from the Social Investment Fund (SIF). It is expected to begin in two weeks and would be completed in six months.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Eric Annan, Regional Consultant of AESL, urged the contractor to deliver according to specifications and meet set deadlines as contained in the contract documents during the site handing over. He emphasized, “The contractors have 14 days to mobilise and move to the site to start work on the project, and we expect them to deliver according to our specifications and timelines. This is not the usual project where contractors delay, because for this one, we have to be giving at least weekly updates to the agency that is funding it, so the moment you delay, they will surcharge you.”
Mrs. Justina Paaga, the Western Regional Manager of the GNA, highlighted that the project, once completed, would provide a safe working environment for staff to deliver on their mandates by providing accurate and unbiased news stories for nation building. She urged the contractor to ensure a quality job to help guarantee the longevity of the office upon completion.
Madam Ann Dodoo, an Operations personnel at Brison Construction, pledged their commitment to deliver quality work and meet the specified deadlines. The rehabilitation of the office complex is part of a Post COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Programme (PSDPEP), a five-year initiative benefiting the GNA among other organizations.
The programme is being funded from a grant facility of $31.34 million, which comprises $28.5 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB), and $2.8 million from the Ghana Government.
