WAFU Day Nine Round-Up

Accra,Day nine of the ongoing FOX 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations saw Ghana and Nigeria progressing to the semi-finals, with Guinea and Mali exiting the competition.

The Super Eagles beat the Black Stars by 2-0 at the Cape Coast stadium, with goals from Anthony Okpotu and Peter Moses helping the Eagles to the semis.

The other Group A match played at the Nduom Sports Stadium saw Guinea and Mali settling for a 1-1 drawn game, after Guinea’s Abdoulaye Naby Camara put his country ahead but later scored an own goal to level for Mali.

The results meant that Ghana and Nigeria qualifies for the semi-finals of the tournament, as the Black Stars finished top of Group A with six points, followed by the Super Eagles, five points, whiles Mali and Guinea settled for third and fourth respectively with two points apiece.

Meanwhile, day ten of the tournament will see Group B’s final games taking place with Niger coming face to face with Benin at the Ndoum Sports Stadium whiles Senegal takes Cote d’Ivoire at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, with both matches kicking off at 18:00 hours (GMT).

Group B is an open group, with any of the four teams likely to qualify for the semifinals of the WAFU tournament.

Niger top the Group B standings with four points, followed by Senegal and Benin in second and third place respectively with three points while Cote d’Ivoire are last with one point.
