Takoradi, Mr. Benjamin Quarcoo, Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has asked customers in the region to use it mobile app to buy power and pay bills.
He said in the wake of the mode of spread of
the virus of COVID-19, the new app, would reduce the huge queues at the various
offices to access their services.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, he indicated
that the new smart meters come with Mobile Application (ECG Mobile App) which
could be used to make payment on all postpaid metered accounts and selected
smart prepayment meters in the system.
He explained that the ECG Power App could be
used for other services such as reporting faults, reporting power outages and
making general enquiries aside the payment of bills and purchasing of power.
He was of the hope that the new smart meters
would reduce the huge queues at the various offices and clamp down on customers
who tempered with the meters and engage in all forms of illegality on the
meters since they could monitor and trace the meters from their offices.
Mr Quarcoo hinted that graphical and info
graphical educational messages on COVID 19 have been displayed at vantage
points, while alcohol-based hand sanitizers and hand washing facilities placed
at vantage points and personal protective equipment (PPEs) provided for
