Things did not go according to plan for the Black Princesses of Ghana on Thursday, August 11, when the team commenced the campaign in the 2022 FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup.

Over the last few weeks, the Princesses have been preparing outside Ghana in hopes of getting ready for the start of the U20 World Cup being staged in Costa Rica.

Today, the Ghana Black Princesses locked horns with their counterpart from the USA in the first Group D match of the ongoing tournament.

For a team that clearly lacked quality in the attack, things went from bad to worse for Ghana in the 31st minute when midfielder Jaqueline Owusu was giving the marching orders to watch the rest of the match from the dressing room.

At halftime, goals from Michelle Cooper and Alyssa Thompson gave the USA a deserved advantage.

After recess, the team continued to dominate play thanks to the numerical advantage.

With another goal from Allyson Sentnor in the 51st minute, the USA cruised to a delightful 3-0 win to climb to the top of the Group D standings.

While the result is a setback for the Black Princesses, the team must immediately put in work to prepare for the second group game against Japan on Sunday, August 14.
