TURKEY PRESENTS 30 BUSES TO GHANA, FULFILLING PLEDGE BY PRESIDENT ERDOGAN

ACCRA, The Republic of Turkey has presented 30 buses to Ghana’s Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) to boost public transportation in the country in fulfillment of a pledge made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Turkey’s pledge when he visited Ghana in March last year.

In addition to the 34-seater buses, Turkey also presented a 40-foot container loaded with vehicles spare parts for the buses. Ismail Hakki Turunc, the Adviser to the Mayor of Istanbul, who officiated at the handover of the buses here Friday, said Turkey was also ready to assist Ghana in its waste management and protection of fresh water bodies.

Nesrin Bayazit, Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, said her country was also ready to assist in Ghana’s local government election system when introduced in Ghana. She said Turkey was also going to offer assistance to Ghana’s government programmes such as one-village, one-dam project as well as the planting for food and jobs initiative, among others.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Hajia Alima Mahama, who received the buses, expressed her gratitude to Turkey saying that every region (province) would benefit from the buses. She said it was critical that Ghana learned from Turkey’s local government systems, which elected its mayors and district chief executives.
