Trump to Convene African Leaders for Summit in Washington

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump is set to meet with the leaders of Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal in Washington, D.C. next week, as reported by Semafor. This meeting is anticipated to be the first Trump-Africa summit during Trump’s second term.

According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting is scheduled for July 9-11 and will likely concentrate on exploring U.S. economic opportunities in West Africa’s critical minerals sector and addressing regional security issues. This summit is part of a broader initiative to strengthen ties with African nations.

Additionally, plans are underway for a larger U.S.-Africa summit to be held in September in New York, as mentioned in the report. In a related development, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda signed a comprehensive peace agreement in Washington on Friday, committing to end over three decades of conflict in the Great Lakes region.
