Traditional ruler at Abesim adjudged Sunyani Municipal Best Farmer

Mensahkrom (B/A), Nana Emmanuel Olutesey, a-64-year-old farmer, has been adjudged the Sunyani Municipal Best Farmer.

For his prize, Nana Olutesey, who is the Sompahene of Abesim near Sunyani, received a tricycle, a spraying machine, cutlasses, pairs of Wellington boots, bars of key soap and wax prints.

The second and third Municipal best farmers went to Mr Ezekiel Kwao from Nanketewa and Nana Charles Mantey Komondor, the Chief of Mensahkrom, respectively.

They received double deck refrigerators, spraying machines, cutlasses, Wellington boots, bars of key soap and wax prints.

Some 20 deserving farmers were also honoured at a ceremony held at Mensahkrom, a farming community in the Municipality.

They also received prizes ranging from wax prints, cutlasses, spraying machines, key bar soaps, Wellington boots and radio sets.

Addressing the farmers prior to the awards, Mr Ansu Kumi, the Presiding Member of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, commended the farmers for their hard work.

He said farming was a useful economic activity and advised the teeming unemployed youth to go into it to enhance their livelihoods.

Nana Olutesey, on behalf of the awardees, thanked the Assembly for the awards and appealed to the Government to make farming attractive by supporting peasant farmers to go into commercial farming.
