Togbi Joachim Acholatse Urges Public to Support Keta Port and Harbour’s Project

General

Keta: Togbi Joachim Acolatse V, Paramount Chief of Kedzi Traditional Council, has appealed to the public to support the ongoing construction of the Keta port and harbour administration block building and other related projects in the area. The support, he believed, was crucial for the speedy and successful completion of the project on time.

According to Ghana News Agency, Togbi Acholatse made the appeal in an interview which coincided with a visit to the site by the new GPHA boss, Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye Kulono. He revealed that he had personally provided free accommodation and other necessary items to the project constructors and workers to enable them to feel at home and concentrate on their work.

Togbi Acholatse emphasized the need to encourage the residents of Keta, Kedzi, Adzido, Vodza, and the entire Volta region to recognize their responsibility in providing support to the constructors and the Ghana Port and Harbour Authority (GPHA) to ensure the project’s success. He stressed the importance of community involvement, stating that the project would be transformative for many communities in the near future.

Togbi Acolatse explained that the Keta port and harbour project had been in development for some time, with the environmental and social impact assessment conducted in November 2023. The project is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the region, including job creation and increased economic activity.

He noted that the leaders of GPHA have been working closely with stakeholders, including the Kedzi Traditional Council, to ensure the project’s success. The Keta port and harbour project represents a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure, and its success would have far-reaching benefits for the local economy. Togbi Acholatse urged all stakeholders, including chiefs and the public, to provide their support for its successful completion.

Togbi Acolatse refuted claims that the project was a political failure and reiterated that it was a long-term plan to bring development to Volta, Keta, and the surrounding communities. He emphasized the need for full support for the GPHA.

Meanwhile, Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, the new Director General for GPHA, visited the ongoing Keta port and harbour administration office construction site and pledged that all necessary efforts would be made for a successful project. GNA understands that the six-floor building office block is 23 percent completed, with an expected completion date of March 2026, instead of the initial date of November 2025.
