Three members of Economic Fighters League arrested

Accra- Police personnel at the Parliament House have arrested three members of the Economic Fighters League, a pressure group, for protesting against the proposed 450-seater chamber building project.

The League members, led by its leader, Ernesto Yeboah, were protesting in the public gallery during proceedings in the House.

The protesters were subsequently bundled out of the chamber and handed over to the police.

The decision to construct a new chamber of Parliament at a cost of $200 million has attracted huge public outcry culminating in a social media campaign dubbed: #DropThatChamber.

Meanwhile, Ms Rasheed Adams, the Convener of #DropThatChamber speaking to the media at the Parliament District Police Station, said the group had contacted its lawyers on the arrest of the members of the pressure group.

According to her, the protest was not criminal but a sign of the public uproar about the new chamber project and believes that the three were just taken out for being rowdy she added.
