Three hundred people benefit from Newmont health screening

New Abirem (E/R)- The Newmont Golden Ridge Akyem Mine, in collaboration with the Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment (CURE) Project of USA, has organised a four-day free health screening exercise for inhabitants of New Abirem and Adausena in the Eastern Region.

The exercise was conducted by a 12-member medical team from the United States of America comprising doctors, certified nurses and emergency medical technicians.

The people were screened for hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, eye problems, stroke and malaria among other ailments and offered free medication.

They were also educated on some of the common tropical diseases and healthy living.

The exercise was to ensure an effective and efficient healthcare delivery in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.

Mr Oduro-Kwarteng Marfo, the Communications and External Relations Manager of the Akyem Mine, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the exercise was a demonstration of Newmont’s commitment to improving the lives of people within their operational areas by taking healthcare to their doorsteps.

He said over the years, the New Abirem Government Hospital, Oda Government Hospital and the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw and other satellite health facilities in the District had benefited from medical supplies and equipment from the Newmont and CURE Project.
