SSCE graduate adjudged best farmer in Lawra

Lawra, (U/W)- Mr Emmanuel Tere, a 37 year old SSCE graduate from Nakurayir was adjudged the best farmer for the Lawra Municipality during the 35th farmers’ day celebration.

He cultivated five acres of maize, two acre sorghum farm, 200 Guinea fowls, 60 cashew acre farm and a teak plantation.

He was awarded with an Apsonic Tricycle, six pieces of wax print, two cutlasses, knapsack sprayer and a bar of key soap.

Other 19 farmers in the Municipality were also recognised and awarded with various prizes for their contribution towards food production in the area.

The farmers who engaged in crop and plantation farming went home with pair of Wellington boots, bars of key soap, cutlass, a snap sack sprayers and radio sets, whilst others took away half packet of iron sheets, deep freezers, knapsack sprayers, radio sets and bicycles.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture in collaboration with the Lawra Municipal Assembly organised the 35th edition of the farmers’ day at the Zambo Tangpuori in the Lawra Municipality.

The programme was on the theme: “Enhancing small scale agriculture towards agriculture development”.

Mr Martin Bomb-Ire, the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) commended the farmers for working tirelessly to feed the nation.

He said this year’s celebration was unique because it marked the third year of the “game changer” agricultural policy of president Nana Akufo Addo led government, and its flagship projects such as the Planting for Food and Jobs.

The national farmers’ day was instituted to honour hard working farmers and fishermen who worked around the clock to produce food to feed the nation and provide raw materials for our industries he added.

The MCE said, The celebration was sustained throughout the years and it was relevant as the nation could not survive without the hard work of farmers.

Naa Puowelle Karbo III, the paramount chief of Lawra appealed to the people to stop bush burning, as a way of preserving the vegetation and to prevent the destruction farms.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Lawra, Mr Anthony Abayifaa Karbo also presented 20 knapsack sprayers to be distributed to the winners.
