Tamale, May 29, GNA – Mr Abdul-Rahaman Abdul-Mumin, Executive Director of Simba Ghana, a youth advocacy and empowerment organisation, has called for a more comprehensive and comprehensive approach by government and other stakeholders to tackle graduate unemployment in the country.
Mr Abdul-Mumin said graduate unemployment was gradually becoming a national security threat, and must urgently be addressed.
He was addressing final year students of some tertiary institutions and members of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) at a youth empowerment summit in Tamale dubbed: “Graduate Job Fair and Personal Development Seminar 2021”.
It was organised by Simba Ghana in collaboration with NASPA, Tamale Metropolis.
Mr Abdul-Mumin said graduate unemployment was multi-dimensional, adding “Most of our graduates seem unprepared for the job market, hence this seminar is geared towards preparing them to meet the demands of prospective employers.”
Mr Adul-Yezid Bukari Adams, District Programmes Coordinator, CAMFED – Ghana, who spoke on personal profiling, said most graduates could not meet the criteria of employing organisations because of some forms of deficits in their personal profiles.
He said most employers placed more emphasis on the prospective employees’ profiles hence the need for graduates to prepare their profiles.
Mr Adul-Yezid Bukari Adams advised the participants to cultivate the culture of volunteerism, service, and commitment to gain the needed experience and exposure for the job market.
Mr Abdul-Hamid Yushawu, NASPA General Secretary, Tamale Metropolis commended Simba Ghana for the partnership and called on government and other stakeholders to implement policies and programmes that would ensure that young people were gainfully employed.
