Shama District Assembly elects new presiding member

Shama (W/R), The Shama District Assembly on the Western Region on Thursday elected Mr Percy Ahenakwah, 37, Assembly Member of Komfueku/Ituma electoral area as its new presiding member.

Twenty-five out of the 26 members of the Assembly who were present voted and Mr Ahenakwah polled 18 votes.

The election was conducted by officials of District Electoral Commission.

Mr Erasmus Narh Addo, a District Magistrate, administrated the oaths of office, allegiance and secrecy to Mr Ahenakwah.

In his acceptance speech Mr Ahenakwah thanked God for bringing him this far and thanked his colleagues for giving him the mandate to serve the District.

He called for their support and cooperation to enable him execute the mandate given him adding you cannot put me here and decide to leave me alone, we need to collaborate and forge ahead with the development of the district.

Mr Ahenakwah, a civil servant, said his vision for the assembly is to ensure effective revenue mobilization and industrialization of the district and called on the members, heads of departments and all stakeholders to support him to achieve the objectives of the Assembly.

He called for peace and unity among the people adding that without peace the district would not be able to achieve it’s development goals.
