The CEO of Golden Empire Legacy Limited, Joana Gyan Cudjoe is lacing her boots to contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Amenfi Central of the Western Region.
The renowned miner announced her intention in a flyer on her Facebook page on Tuesday while wishing the residents of the area well on Valentine’s Day.
As a member of the opposition party in good standing, Mrs Cudjoe believes “people who know the way are the ones to lead the people.”
Her passion to join the race was borne out of the delayed development in the Amenfi Central Municipality which is enriched with gold, timber, cocoa and fertile arable lands.
In an interview with this portal, Mrs Cudjoe who hails from Wassa Agona Amenfi, emphasised the need for the people to get the right leader to spearhead a total transformation agenda that will better the livelihood of the people.
Touching on his ‘mpuntuo ne nkosuo’ agenda which means development and progress, the business executive said having travelled wide to do business, she had seen that transforming an area with rich resources such as her home district needs few years to impact on lives.
“Even before I made my mind to go and serve my people in that capacity, I had been supporting them with projects Ithe education and health sector,” she noted.
She recounted how she and her team from the Joana Gyan Foundation– a non governmental agency– supported the residents with PPEs and food stuff when the deadly COVID-19 struck in 2020.
Her support to the people and her passion to see the development of human capital elevated her to the status of a queen mother at Wassa Agona Amenfi.
She says the ‘Nkosuo Hemaa’, (Queen of Development) her title, has motivated her to partner with investors to create jobs by adding value to the crops being grown in the area.
She has a sponsorship package for brilliant but needy students to study to become professionals who will also invest back to the area.
She envisages raising hundreds of doctors, engineers and IT experts by 2032 to serve the people of Amenfi Central.
Her NGO targets raising GH? 100 million to create jobs and support education, healthcare, victims of injustice and the abused.
Growing up in the area, Joana says she knows her people, appreciate their challenges and has worked on a viable plan to put them on the path of progress when she becomes their legislator.
