President commissions Tesano Divisional Police Headquarters

Accra, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday commissioned the new divisional police headquarters for the Tesano Divisional Command.

The multi-million modern facility, fully financed by business mogul and media owner, Dr Osei Kwame, known popularly as Kwame Despite, is to facilitate effective and efficient delivery of service by the Command.

At a colourful ceremony at the premises of the Division, President Akufo-Addo lauded the contribution of Dr Osei Kwame to the development of the society, saying; “Despite, you deserve a big ayekooo.”

“This is an excellent example of a contribution a responsible citizen can make to the development of the community…and this is worthy of emulation.”

The President said government was committed to mobilising whatever assistance it could to enable the Police Service to provide the Ghanaian people with the service they deserved.

He said the Service would be strengthened and fashioned into an honest, disciplined, efficient and robust force whose emphasis would be on proactive and preventative policing rather than reactionary.

President Akufo-Addo gave the assurance that the nationwide rehabilitation of police stations, the recruitment of some 4,000 personnel, the role out of 8,700 close circuit televisions across the country and the allocation of resources for essential equipment would ensure the safety and security of Ghanaians.

“The most important things for a nation are the peace and safety of its people, and its territorial integrity.

It is when these are guaranteed that citizens can go about their normal lives in security, and try to improve on the quality of their circumstances,” he said.

The President admonished the Service to pay particular attention to the maintenance of the facility.

He called for closer collaboration between the Police and the community to build a progressive and prosperous country, and establish an orderly society governed by the rule of law.

Dr Osei Kwame, in a speech read on his behalf, called on private business people to assist the Government to enhance the capability of the Police Service.

He expressed the hope that the facility would foster harmony between the Police and citizens and enhance peace and security in the Division.

Despite has donated one such facility to the Police in Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region as well as modern edifices to some health institutions.

The Tesano edifice would host not only the Divisional Command but accommodate the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Division.

The edifice has offices, room for the Divisional Officers, the DOVVSU General Office, a 10-seater conference room, a kitchen, a dining room, five washrooms, an executive lobby, a general lobby, a counter-back area, and two modernised cells with washrooms for women and juveniles.
