Presby Moderator urges Ghanaians to support free SHS
Abokobi (GAR)- The Reverend Dr Victor Okoh Abbey, Acting Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has called on the public to eschew corruption and work together to make the Free Senior-High School programme a success.
He said this was important because of the enormous benefits the country stands to gain through the development of her human capital.
The Acting Moderator said the public money which could have gone to private pockets would also be used to fund the Free SHS policy and sustain it.
Rev. Dr Abbbey made the call at the opening of this year’s National Delegates Conference of the church at Abokobi in the Greater Accra Region on Friday.
The four-day conference is being held under the theme: ‘Let the Earth HearThe Presbyter in Effective Evangelism’.
It is aimed at building the capacity of the participants and also pray for peace and stability of the nation.
Rev. Dr Abbey said the implementation of the policy has opened the door of opportunity to many students from poor homes who otherwise could not have received Senior-High School education.
He advised parents to take advantage of the intervention to put all their children in schools.
The Acting Moderator said it was by giving their children education that they would help to make their lives meaningful in the society.
Mr Thomas Bosu-Adekpo, National President, called for the formation of Campus Visitation Teams in all churches which would help to instil in the youth, a sense of discipline and also take Bible reading serious.
He urged the participants to study the Bible, the Constitution of the church and also become the servants-leaders in their various congregations.
