Tamale: The 14th Annual Preharvest Agribusiness Conference and Exhibition has commenced in Tamale, aiming to connect farmers, buyers, and other service providers within northern Ghana’s agricultural sector. Organized by Agrihouse Foundation and its partners, the two-day event is showcasing agricultural produce and products, with a focus on transforming agriculture and creating long-term market development opportunities for farmers.
According to Ghana News Agency, the conference is themed ‘Connecting the Unconnected: Feeding the Future through Innovative and Technological Approaches’. It gathers stakeholders from various agricultural sectors, including farmers, agribusiness professionals, input suppliers, processors, and buyers.
Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, the Northern Regional Minister, addressed the conference, emphasizing the region’s vital role in ensuring food security in Ghana despite challenges such as limited access to resources, markets, and modern farming techniques. He encouraged farmers to adopt
technological advancements like precision farming, digital platforms, mobile apps, and advanced irrigation systems to boost production.
Saibu also called for collective efforts among stakeholders, including the private sector, financial institutions, development partners, and the government, to provide farmers with the necessary tools and resources to enhance their productivity. He praised Agrihouse Foundation for organizing the event and advocating for farmers’ needs.
Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, reassured participants about ongoing efforts to improve farmers’ access to markets and finance, aiming to enhance food security and sustainability while promoting the agricultural sector’s growth.
Madam Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Director of Agrihouse Foundation, highlighted the conference’s focus on innovative approaches and technology, building on the theme of connecting unconnected agricultural systems to advance the sector.
