Accra The Vision Seed Academy, a basic school in La, Accra has held its 19th graduation ceremony with a call on parents to play their roles effectively in supervising the moral and academic training of their children.
Reverend Dr Victor Adjei Mensah, the General Overseer of Higher Praise Tabernacle at La who made the call also urged parents to monitor what their children were exposed to in the social media and their relationships.
The occasion, which saw 53 kindergarten pupils and 49 Junior High School students graduating to the next stage, was on the theme: Collaborative Effort to Fight Moral Decadence and Ignorance in Society The Role of the Teacher and Parent.
Rev Dr Mensah said: The large chunk of irresponsible parents we have today are clearly responsible for the moral decadence that are common with the children and teenagers all over the world.
Every parent you meet talks about the good old days when children were brought up with sound moral and ethical training. Why is it that parents who are privileged to have received such quality upbringing in time past are the ones bringing up useless, irresponsible and morally deviant children with little or no regard to societal norms and values?
He said most parents had abdicated their primary responsibility of building up their homes and families in pursuit of wealth, riches, material things, career, among others to the detriment of the future morals of their children.
Rev Dr Mensah advised parents to do well to instil the fear of God in their children because the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom which would guide the lives of the children.
Mr Samuel Sowah Oblejumah, the chairman for the occasion urged the teachers of the school to lay equal emphasis on the teaching of Ga and English as the school was hosted in a Ga community.
Parents, he said, should monitor their children in their viewing of television and use of social media as there was a link between media images and deviant behaviour.
Prizes were awarded to deserving pupils.
