NSA applauds Kotoko for reaching Confederation Cup group stage
Accra- The National Sports Authority (NSA), has congratulated Kumasi Asante Kotoko, for beating Coton Sports of Cameroon, to reach the group stages in their African Confederation Cup qualifiers.
Asante Kotoko coasted home to a 2-1 victory over visiting Coton Sport of Garoua in their second leg CAF Confederations Cup clash at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday, to sail through to the Group Stage of the competition.
The Ghanaian giants accounted for the Cameroonians 3-2 in the first leg, thus qualifying on a 5-3 goal aggregate, a feat they have not achieved for more than a decade.
In a statement signed by Mr Charles O. Amofah, Acting Public Relations Officer of the NSA and copied to the GNA Sports, it congratulated the supporters of the club for their massive show of love in their last home game.
Last Sunday’s encounter, which saw a record high spectator turnout, first of its kind in ten years during CAN 2008 has obviously rekindled the Ghanaian passion for football and needs to be sustained.
In this regard, the Authority is using this medium to congratulate the teaming supporters of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ghanaian football fans, who thronged the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their numbers to support Kotoko, the statement read.
It is hoped that, this spectator confidence that has soared would be sustained. The Authority also appealed to the club to consider printing enough tickets so as to avoid any shortfalls in the future. Once again, NSA wishes Kotoko well in their subsequent encounters, as they progress into the next stage of the competition and prays that this feat will go a long way to bring back the glorious days of Ghana football.
Kotoko has been drawn in a fairly reasonable group in the ongoing competition.
The Porcupine Warriors are drawn in Group C where they are expected to travel to Zambia twice and make their last travel in the group to Sudan beginning from February 3.
