NDC Zongo Caucus aspirant appeals to delegates for votes

Bolgatanga Alhaji Labaran Zakari Kassim, a contestant for Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has appealed to delegates to vote for him to galvanize support in the Zongo communities.

I am a typical Zongo man, born and bred within the Zongo community, I have good relationship with the regional chief Imam, the Zongo chiefs, ‘magajiyas’ (queen mothers in Zongo communities), and I stand tall among my contenders, he said.

He indicated that Zongo communities were tagged as trouble-causing communities owing to the joblessness of most of the youth who were used by others as instruments to orchestrate trouble, and said if given the nod, he would use his position to canvass votes and ensure that the NDC regained power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Alhaji Kassim made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga as part of his campaign strategies to lobby delegates to offer him the opportunity to serve the party at the regional level.

He indicated that it was a newly created portfolio to counter the NPP’s Nasara Coordinator portfolio, adding the Zongo Caucus is a new-born baby that needs a caring mother that will give it food to eat, and I am the best mother to do that.

The NDC has a bigger support base in the Zongo community, and the NPP has taken advantage to penetrate this our support base by creating the Nasara group to get our people into the NPP with packages, and fortunately, the people are buying into it because they feel neglected by the party (NDC), he said.

According to the aspirant, an NDC government was capable of creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the Zongo communities and country at large, because the party had an unblemished track record which was comparable to none.

Alhaji Kassim said if delegates endorsed him with their votes, he would collaborate with all District Zongo Coordinators within the region, dialogue with all neglected members and find innovative ways of bringing them back to form a strong support base at the grassroots level within the Zongo communities.

The aspirant observed that there was power struggle within most Zongo communities, and said he would use his influence and cordial relationship with stakeholders in the areas to settle petty disputes stemming from power struggles, to unite and strengthen structures and form concrete grounds for the NDC in the 2020 election.

Alhaji Kassim admonished colleague aspirants against foul words during campaigns because the election was an in-house affair, and stated that whenever you go out to campaign, try to tell the people what you can do, and not what somebody cannot do, tell them what you have for them, and how best you are.

I am appealing to all the delegates to vote for me and I will not disappoint them. I am number two on the ballot paper, he said.
