NCCE Hosts Parliamentary Debate in Amenfi East.

Wassa Akropong: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a parliamentary debate for parliamentary aspirants at Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East Constituency to enable them to make bare their programmes and policies. The debate, which took place in collaboration with the Inter Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) and Rivers FM station, provided a platform for aspirants from the two major political parties, with Mr Ernest Frimpong of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) actively participating, while the incumbent MP, Mr Nicholas Amankwah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was notably absent.

According to Ghana News Agency, the debate offered Mr Ernest Frimpong an opportunity to outline his development plans for the constituency. He proposed a focus on education by advocating for the establishment of a university, a Teacher Training College, and an additional Senior High/Technical school. He also suggested implementing an annual awards scheme for teachers and education units, alongside ensu
ring an annual distribution of desks to schools.

On health, Mr Frimpong expressed intentions to upgrade the government hospital into an ultra-modern facility to enhance healthcare delivery. He plans to sponsor nursing trainees, establish an annual award for nurses and health workers, organize annual free health screenings, and construct a hostel for accommodating caregivers at the hospital.

Addressing infrastructure, Mr Frimpong stated he would collaborate with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to improve road conditions by tarring most roads within the municipality and utilizing DRIP equipment for feeder road enhancement. On employment, he emphasized the importance of implementing community mining effectively to integrate all miners and curb illegal mining activities.

Furthermore, Mr Frimpong advocated for mechanized farming to make agriculture more appealing to the youth. He pledged to ensure peace before, during, and after the December polls, promising to fulfill his mandate if elected.

eng, the Municipal Director of the NCCE, in his welcoming address, emphasized the debate’s aim to provide a platform for aspirants to present their visions for the constituency over the next four years. He encouraged political and religious tolerance among Ghanaians as the elections approached, stressing the collective responsibility to uphold the nation’s constitution and democracy.

Mr Boateng expressed disappointment over the absence of the incumbent MP but commended the NPP aspirant for his participation. He urged all aspirants to conduct their campaigns respectfully, avoiding insults and name-calling. He also called for peace during the electoral process.

The debate was attended by notable figures, including Nana Asare Bediako, Chief Asunda, who represented the paramount chief of Wassa Amenfi, Nana Baffour Anin II, Chief of Asikuma, Mr Fredrick Korankye, Wass Amenfi East MCE, Police Superintendent Simon Setorglo, district police commander, and Reverend Fiifi Adams, Local Council of Churches President.
