Ofankor: The National Security has successfully conducted a significant operation, seizing a large, unspecified amount of United States dollars and Ghana Cedis, including counterfeits, which were hidden in 12 20-footer shipping containers.
According to Ghana News Agency, the containers were tracked to a warehouse in Ofankor, Ga South Municipality, following a tip-off. The operation revealed that the currency, primarily bundles of US dollars, was cleverly concealed in wooden boxes filled with cement. Additional searches at the warehouse uncovered more currencies stashed in boxes barricaded with plywood and sealed with charcoal.
The statement from National Security highlighted that two containers remain unaccounted for, but state security trackers are actively pursuing them. A manhunt is also underway for four suspects, including a ring leader known only as Alhaji.
The operation’s findings included not only the currency but also boxes of metals suspected to be gold bars, counterfeit Ghana cedi notes in 50 and 100 denominations, and fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots.
