NaCCA/GES hold forum on pre-tertiary learning assessment

Accra- The National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has begun stakeholders’ engagement on the National Pre-Tertiary Learning Assessment Framework to solicit views and suggestions for its implementation.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Deputy Minister of Education, speaking at the first encounter in Tamale, stated that the new Assessment Framework would provide general guidelines for the measuring of progress and achievement of all learners at various grade levels against national standards.

This would ensure fairness, accountability and public confidence in the assessment system across the country, he said.

The session brought together stakeholders from the Northern, Savannah, Upper West, Upper East and North East regions.

Dr Prince H. Armah, the Acting Executive Secretary of NaCCA, said the Framework was a document developed to assist the implementation of the standard-based curriculum.

It is designed to guide assessment practices in schools and the education system in general.

It ensured strong linkages among the curriculum, mode of learning, teaching and assessment at the Pre-tertiary level, he said.

Assessment at the Pre-tertiary level would be used to take decisions on remediation, placement, promotion, certification, and learner progress.

Circuit Supervisors, Principals of Colleges of Education, Unit Managers, Basic Schools Co-ordinators, and representatives of various Non-Governmental Organisations, Teacher Unions, Conference of Heads Assisted Secondary Schools, Senior High School students and pupils from selected schools attended the meeting.
