MTN presents hampers to Christmas babies

Accra, MTN Foundation has presented hampers to mothers and babies delivered on December 24, 25 and 26 at the Tema General Hospital as part of the Christmas celebration.

The hampers tagged the Yellow Hampers were warmly received by hospital authorities as well as the mothers and some fathers present at the hospital at the time MTN paid the visit.

Ms Georgina Fiagbenu, the Acting Corporate Services Executive at MTN, said as the Christmas festive season continues and everyone is celebrating, we thought that it would be a good idea to visit babies who have just been delivered and celebrate occasion with them.

She said the gesture was the fifth edition of an annual event that the MTN Foundation organises to celebrate babies born on such special days.

She said the MTN Foundation chose the Tema General Hospital because the company has in recent times started building a relationship with the hospital through the provision of a fully furnished maternity block.

Ms Fiagbenu said the new maternity block for the hospital would be handed over in the early part of next year.

She said MTN has always focused on education, health and economic empowerment and that safe delivery is a core part of the health focus.

Ms Fiagbenu said MTN has given out 160 hampers across the country this means 40 hampers to babies born during the festive season in Tema, Tamale Regional Hospital, the Effia Nkwanta hospital in the Western Region and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

She said this year’s hamper presentation was made special because the MTN Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Dr Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, the Acting Clinical Coordinator and the Emergency Medicine Specialist at the Hospital, commended MTN for the kind gesture.

He said 17 babies, 14 females and three males, were delivered on the Christmas Day adding that as at the time of MTN’s visit, five babies including three females and two males have been delivered.
