MP lauds loyalty and enthusiasm of NDC supporters

Sunyani – Mr Ahmed Ibraham, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda constituency in the Brong-Ahafo Region has lauded the loyalty exhibited by teeming supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said their enthusiasm was highly appreciable and commendable.

More than 925 delegates of the NDC drawn from the 29 constituencies are attending the congress which would elect new regional executives to lead the party in Election 2020.

Former Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as former Municipal and District Chief Executives are also attending the congress.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Ibrahim said the fortunes of the NDC was brighter in Election 2020 and advised the party supporters to maintain the spirit of loyalty and intensify campaign.

He emphasised that more was required from the NDC if the party could regain power in 2020, and entreated the more than 46 candidates contesting for the various regional executive positions to understand each other.

Mr Ibrahim said as an opposition party, unity was important, and appealed to the candidates and their supporters to guard against actions that had the potential to create divisions among the rank and file of the party and narrowed the fortunes of the party.

He expressed the hope that the elections would be conducted in a free and fair manner devoid of any form of rigging.

“Signals are all around that the NDC supporters are poised to bring the party back to power in Election 2020”, the MP stated.

Describing the conference as an internal one, Mr Ibrahim advised the candidates and their supporters not to see the election as a “do and die affair”, rather respect each other’s views.

Earlier in a welcoming address, Mr Opoku Atuahene, the out-going Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NDC praised Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South for his unflinching support towards the growth of the party.

According to him Alhaji Dauda, a former Minister of State had remained supportive and one of the strongest pillars of the party since 1992, and therefore needed appreciation and recognition.

Mr Atuahene also reminded the delegates on the need for them to vote for former President John Dramani Mahama during the national congress to lead the party to a resounding victory in 2020.
