Morocco: Morocco and Hungary, which celebrate this year the 65th anniversary of their bilateral ties, are committed to further expanding their partnership for the mutual benefit of both countries’ development as underlined in a Joint Statement signed on Wednesday. It followed a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó.
According to Ghana News Agency, the two ministers ‘recalled the historical and excellent bilateral ties and reaffirmed their strategic importance.’ They also commended ‘the momentum that has marked ties between the two countries in recent years,’ as noted in the joint statement.
During this meeting, Bourita and Szijjártó discussed the need to ‘promote regular political consultations and welcomed the bilateral talks between Hungary’s Prime Minister and Morocco’s Head of Government in April 2024 in Marrakech.’ This meeting underscores the strengthening of cooperation betwe
en the two nations, highlighted by the hosting of the 5th Joint Economic Commission on October 30, 2024, in Rabat. This event ‘represents a key step to enhance bilateral ties and pave the way for new prospects for economic partnership.’
In this regard, both ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation in all fields and identified several key sectors of particular interest, such as economy, agriculture, the food industry, renewables, the automotive industry, culture, education, research and innovation, sport, and tourism. They also welcomed their bilateral cooperation in the field of scientific research and innovation, as well as the student mobility program.
Strengthening Morocco’s cooperation with Hungary aligns with the Kingdom’s efforts to diversify its partnerships and confirms Morocco’s role as a strategic player for European countries. Concluding their meeting, the two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding relating to the health sector.
