Minister for Finance Inaugurates Water Project for Karaga Constituency.

Karaga: Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Karaga, has inaugurated a water project supplying potable water to the Karaga township, Zenyili, and Binduli in the constituency. The initiative aims to address the perennial water shortage in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, the project commenced in June of this year and was completed in November. It was solely funded by the government through the Ministry of Finance, with a total cost of GHs18,191,498.11. The initiative involved the development of two underground water production sources mechanized at Zenyili, designed to operate on both solar and electricity. The project also included a total of 13.50 kilometers of piping, consisting of a 6.40-kilometer transmission and a 7.10-kilometer distribution network.

Additionally, the project featured the installation of two packaged water purification plants at Binduli, the rehabilitation of two existing high-level storage tanks, and the construction of 67 public standpipes
equipped with the latest smart tap technology and traditional standpipes. Dr Adam, during the inauguration ceremony in Karaga, expressed that the project would provide long-term benefits to the community.

He encouraged investors, as well as businesspersons, to utilize the new facilities in the constituency to establish businesses in the area. Dr Adam stated, ‘I expect that with the abundant availability of potable water now in Karaga, coupled with stable electricity supply, investors will take advantage to establish small and medium factories and businesses in this area to give employment to the youth as well as open up the development of the area.’

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, the Northern Regional Minister, urged residents to appreciate the government’s efforts by voting to retain it in the upcoming December 7 elections, thus allowing it to continue improving the lives and well-being of the people. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stating, ‘The peace of the people of the Karaga Cons
tituency and Ghana is paramount. We must, therefore, eschew violence before, during and after the elections.’

Mr Aloysius Adjetey, Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), called on the people of Karaga, Zenyili, and Binduli to support the CWSA team in efficiently managing the water system to ensure its sustainability.

Naa Bakpem Kar-Naa Abdulai Natogmah, the Paramount Chief of the Karaga Traditional Area, praised Dr Adam for the project, assuring him that ‘The gods of the land will always protect you and bless you. This constituency is blessed to have you, and I am particularly grateful for having you in my regime.’
