Mason charged for possessing Indian hemp

Accra An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Emmanuel Nii Quaye Kotey, a mason into Police custody for possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority.

The accused who pleaded not guilty is to reappear on Friday May 18.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector K. Adu told the court presided over Mr Aboagye Tandah that on April 24, the Kpeshie Divisional Police Command had information that some people were trading in narcotic drugs around the Teshie Adoemli public toilet.

He said a team of personnel was dispatched to the scene and the accused and his accomplices upon seeing the Police suddenly took to their heels but the Police hunted for him and had the accused arrested.

He said the Police retrieved 152 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in a polythene bag the accused person was holding.

He said the accused person in his caution statement said the exhibits belongs to one Guaguanu and Kwame.

The Prosecution said the exhibits were being forwarded to the forensic laboratory for examination and efforts are also underway to apprehend the above mentioned accomplices for further an investigation.
