Man, 34, jailed five years for causing harm

Kumasi- A 34 year old man who inflicted cutlass wounds on one palm of a farmer has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Ekow Mensah.

Prince Yeboah, the convict, pleaded guilty to the crime.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Felix Akowuah told the Court that Emmanuel Akorega and Samadu Allidu, both farmers and complainants in the case live in the same house at Barekese, near Kumasi, whilst the convict and one Isaaka, are also neighbours living in a different house in the same community.

ASP Akowuah told the Court that about three weeks ago, the convict accommodated Emmanuel, one of the complainants, in his room, but later after a misunderstanding, Emmanuel moved to stay with Isaaka.

Prosecution said on the 8th of August, 2018 at about 1500 hrs, while Emmanuel was seeing Samadu off after he (Samadu) had paid him a visit in his new location, the convict made a remark to wit, let them take their stupidity away.

Angered by this, the two complainants confronted convict, in an ensuing altercation, convict who became enraged brought out a cutlass from his kitchen and brandishing it, inflicted some cuts on Samadu’s right arm, the Court heard.

ASP Akowuah told the Court that the convict also attempted four times to cut Emmanuel’s head, but he used his left hand to shield his head and in the process sustained deep wound in his left palm, which led to the amputation of his two fingers, when he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Convict then bolted with the cutlass, and a report was made to police immediately and medical forms were issued for the two complainants to attend hospital.

Prosecution told the Court that on 9th August, the convict reported himself at the Police Station and was arrested and detained.

The convict in his caution statement admitted the offence and was arraigned before the court.
