Hohoe (V/R), May 29, GNA – Mama Dzidoasi I, Sub Divisional Queen Mother of Gbi Abansi, has sensitised and donated sanitary pads to adolescent girls in the Abansi community, near Hohoe in the Volta Region.

It was in commemoration of the 2022 Menstrual Hygiene Day and Rollout of Dzidoasi Pad Bank in partnership with “Project Brave” and team from Marie Stopes.

Mama Dzidoasi said the aim was to engage the adolescent girls on how to keep themselves healthy and maintain hygienic lifestyles during their menstrual period.

She said it was also to engage them more on sexual reproductive health matters with some exercises to demonstrate to the girls how they could handle menstrual and sexual related issues.

Mama Dzidoasi said calls to reduce the cost of sanitary pads would help young people to afford more sanitary pads.

She said about 169 girls were benefiting from the pad bank monthly, adding that she was ready to continue to support the adolescent girls.

Mrs Tracy Owusu-Addo (Tracy Sarkcess), Founder and Executive Lead, Project Brave, noted that menstruation was part of the daily lives of women, but was rather not being spoken enough about.

She said it was necessary to educate young women on menstruation to ensure that they were equipped with the right information and tools to be able to make right decisions.

Mrs Owusu-Addo encouraged the adolescent girls to always ask questions from people who could help and empower them.

She noted that women suffered in silence in terms of their sexual reproductive health and menstruation issues and tend to cover them up because of how society saw such issues as taboos.

Mr Emmanuel Agbley, Assemblyman of Gbi Abansi, expressed gratitude to Mama Dzidoasi for her projects aimed at supporting the Area and the Municipality.

He said most children fell for many vices due to lack of funds to buy sanitary pads and the initiative would curb such issues.
