Little Angels Trust organizes football competition for cancer awareness

Accra, Little Angels Trust, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has organized a football competition to create cancer awareness in aid of children with cancer.

The inter-schools football competition held at the Indafa Park, Korle Bu, Accra, saw Mamprobi South 3 Basic School defeating Mamprobi Zion B Basic School 3-1 in the finals of the competition.

The winners were rewarded with medals plus a trophy whist the second runners took home medals.

The event was graced by Ghanaian footballers Gladson Awako, who plays for Phoenix Rising FC in the US Soccer League and Aduana Stars’ Godfred Saka.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, Madam Dame Lavinia Enim, Founder of the NGO, said the competition was held to create Cancer awareness and also to give hope to children living with cancer.

Madam Enim said her outfit has over the past 13 years been visiting the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital Children’s Block (Cancer Unit) to interact with the children and also to lend a helping hand to families who may need financial support with their medical or hospital fees.

She said Cancer does not discriminate and affects all people from different backgrounds, irrespective of gender or sex and that early diagnosis is vital for its treatment.

Madam Enim said the NGO would continue to raise more awareness through their messages of HOPE campaigns, ‘Love Walks’ and other activities to support the terminally ill children of the unit.

She called on government and individuals to come on board to assist the children living with cancer.

Madam Gladys Nketia Sonia, mother of a four year old kid with cancer, thanked the Little Angels Trust for the assistance they’ve rendered to her for the past two years, adding that, I’m very grateful for their support so far. Had it not been them, I don’t know what I could have done.
