Let us take second look at electoral area elections – Kwaku Appiah

Bronkon, (Ash) Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Chairman of the Afigya-Kwabre South constituency of the NPP has called on the leadership of the party to take a critical look at polling station and electoral area elections conducted by the party.

He said the elections, meant to select officers for the party at the lower levels had over the years, been characterised by tension, acrimony and internal wrangling resulting in divisions among members and sometimes, court injunctions.

This, according to him had in many cases, affected the electoral fortunes of the party at the presidential and parliamentary levels.

There is therefore, the need for the leadership to device effective and pragmatic mechanisms that could be used to choose officers for the party at the basic levels to promote unity and peace in the party.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, made the appeal at a victory party organised by the constituency for the newly elected polling station, electoral area and constituency executives at Brokon, near Afracho, in the Afigya-Kwabre West District.

Odeneho Appiah, who is also the chairman of the Ashanti Regional Constituency Chairmen association of the NPP, made reference to the recent lower level primaries of the party, which were characterised by confusions and sometimes violent acts and internal divisions, leading to court actions by some aggrieved members in some constituencies in the country.

He suggested for them to ensure the election of only the constituency executives were voted for, while the other lower level executives would be selected by mutually agreed procedure.

This, according to him would help bring peace and reduce tensions that often characterised these elections in some constituencies.

Odeneho Appiah called for greater unity among members and urged them to always use laid down procedures to resolve their grievances.
