Dawa (GAR), The Dawa D.A. Basic School which has been in a deplorable state for some years now, has received a facelift funded by Lekela Power Limited.
The company, which is in the process of constructing the first windfarm in West Africa in Ningo in the Ningo-Prampram District, renovated the school in addition to two other schools at an estimated cost of 100,000 dollars.
Other schools refurbished by the company are; the Old Ningo kindergarten school block and the Ayetepa D.A Basic School.
Madam Jennifer Boca, Head of Environment, Social and Governance at Lekela, said the gesture was in fulfillment of the company’s corporate social responsibility even though it was yet to start the construction and operation of the windfarm.
Madam Boca noted that her outfit was interested in the promotion of quality education leading to their decision to invest in the three schools in the district of their operations.
She stated that the schools were chosen in consultation with the District Education Directorate and the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly.
Mrs Matilda Amy Quartey, Ningo-Prampram District Education Director, thanked Lekela and its partners for the gesture and promised to utilize the renovated schools to improve the quality of education in the district.
Mrs Quartey pleaded with the company and other organizations to help the school to get the needed auxiliary teaching materials.
She urged teachers in the school to let the renovation to spur them on to give off their best to help improve the schools’ results at the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.
