Lands Minister to attend Mining Conference in South Africa

Accra- Mr John Peter Amewu, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, would lead a nine-member delegation to the 2018 Mining Indaba Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, scheduled to open on February 5, to explore business opportunities in the mining sector.

A statement issued by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry and copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Friday, said the Minister would speak on the topic: Sustaining Ghana’s Mining Industry.

It said the Minister would be a key panelist in a discussion on Inter-governmental forum for African and Non-African Governments, which would among other things, discuss issues pertaining to investment, transparency and international trade.

It said the Minister would also take the opportunity to engage key captains of industries on the prospect of mining in Ghana, up-scaling local content participation and strategies to address key mining challenges, including managing the menace of illegal mining, otherwise known as galamsey.

The African Mining Indaba is the largest investment conference on mining in Africa.

The annual event is devoted towards ensuring successful capitalisation and development of mining interest in Africa.

It would bring together investors, mining companies and key stakeholders in the mining industry across the globe, with the ultimate goal of advancing mining on the African Continent.

Members of the Ghanaian delegation to the conference include officials from the Minerals Commission, Chamber of Mines and the Minerals Development Fund.
