KOICA and Partners Celebrate 2024 International Volunteer Day in Dawhenya.

Dawhenya: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in collaboration with several volunteer organizations, celebrated the 2024 International Volunteer Day at Abbey Korpe D/A Basic School in Dawhenya, located in the Ningo Prampram district of Ghana.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event saw participation from numerous groups including Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Peace Corps Ghana, United Nations Volunteers, France Volontaires Ghana, and Corps Africa Ghana. The gathering attracted volunteers, school children, and community members, all focusing on the promotion of volunteerism as a tool for community development and cultural exchange.

Under the theme ‘Building a Foundation of Healthy Habit for Students through Volunteer Action,’ the 2024 International Volunteer Day aimed to bring together local and international volunteers to work collaboratively towards sustainable development.

Mr. Dong Hyun Lee, Country Director of KOICA Ghana, delivered a keynote address, reaffirming KOICA
‘s commitment to supporting Ghana’s development through initiatives aimed at improving education, health, and community welfare. He emphasized the role of volunteerism in bridging cultural and knowledge divides, fostering a sense of solidarity beyond national borders.

Mr. Lee also acknowledged the crucial role played by Ghanaian communities in welcoming and collaborating with international volunteers. He highlighted the importance of a hygienic learning environment and healthy students as fundamental to providing inclusive, high-quality education.
