Bator (V/R), Nov. 6, GNA — International Needs Ghana (INGH) has counselled 305 JHS/SHS International Needs Child/Group Assistance Programme (INCAP/INGAP) participants in the Volta, Greater Accra and Central regions on career choices.
The 143 male and 262 female participants were Junior High School/Senior High School graduates transiting to Senior Secondary/Tertiary and TVET programme next year.
The session which took place from the 1st-4th November, 2022 offered the graduates an opportunity to assess their learning style, personality and explore various courses they can study as they advance to higher education.
With the help of facilitators from North Tongu Education Directorate and Mrs Augustina Dadebo, the graduates acquired conceptual understanding of the various learning styles, identified their preferred learning style as well as their personality type.
Based on their unique interest code revealed through the RIASEC, a personality assessment tool, administered, they explored various career options available to them.
In the Volta Region, directors of North and South Tongu district education directorate encouraged the graduates to apply themselves wholly to the programme in order to make an informed decision about their future.
They also shared their life experiences to encourage the participants not to give up.
Madam Kate S. Ampratwum, Senior Programme Officer at INGH, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said “equipping young people with the right information about higher education and career options available is critical to their empowerment and development.”
With the right information, young people choose appropriate courses to study at higher levels of their education which contribute to the attainment of their desired career and employment into decent work. Collectively, this will improve the human capital development of Ghana contributing to building a sustainable society, she emphasised.
At the end of the programme, the participants were excited about the intervention. Some participants expressed their joy for the support provided by International Needs.
They said with the help of the RIASEC assessment, they were clear about the course they want to study in the Senior High and University.
Those who are venturing into TVET programmes are convinced about which trade area to focus on.
INGH supports the holistic development of over 5000 children in 11 schools in the areas of education, health and physical, life skills and social and spiritual development.
