Accra: The Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh) has conferred its most prestigious accolade, the Director of the Year award, on Professor Douglas Boateng, Board Chairman of Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF). The honour recognises Prof. Boateng’s exemplary leadership, unwavering dedication to accountability, and relentless commitment to societal advancement at the launch of its 25th anniversary celebration and the 6th Corporate Governance Excellence Awards.
According to Ghana News Agency, Reverend Mrs. Angela Carmen Appiah, President of IoD-Gh, commended Professor Boateng’s remarkable contributions. ‘Professor Boateng epitomises leadership by example; his steadfast commitment to ethical governance, accountability, and service sets an unparalleled standard,’ she said. The president stated that the award was a testament to his ability to inspire transformative change within organisations and society.
As the Director and Chairman of organisations such as MIIF and Labadi Beach Hotel, Prof. Boateng has rede
fined supervisory leadership. His humility, visionary approach, and steadfast focus on accountability have propelled these institutions to record-breaking success, earning prestigious accolades such as the Ghana CEO Vision and Awards and the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana Awards.
Dr. Alfred Mahamadu Braimah, CEO of IoD-Gh, reflected on Professor Boateng’s enduring influence. ‘Professor Boateng’s leadership is a masterclass in accountability and service,’ he said. He remarked that the awardee demonstrated that true leadership transcended personal ambition. He noted that for Prof. Boateng, it was about building systems that uplifted others, fostered trust, and drove meaningful progress. ‘His unwavering commitment to governance is a powerful reminder of the pivotal role ethical leadership plays in shaping a brighter future for organisations and communities,’ he added.
Professor Boateng expressed, ‘This award, especially during the 6th Corporate Governance Excellence Awards and launch of the IoD-Gh’s 25
th anniversary celebrations, is both a profound honour and a significant responsibility.’ He said it reinforced the shared duty as leaders to build a better future for generations to come. The awardee emphasised that governance was not merely about policies; it was about creating value, fostering trust, and serving with purpose. ‘Leadership is not about individual achievements but about collective progress and leaving a legacy of service and excellence,’ he said.
Prof. Boateng, who is a Chartered Industrial Engineer, is a Fellow of IoD-Gh and a Chartered Director and Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Institute of Directors, achieving the distinction of being one of the youngest admitted in 1994. He currently serves as an adjunct professor of supply chain management and industrialisation at the University of Mines and Technology and holds the esteemed title of Africa’s first-ever professor extraordinaire in supply chain governance and management.

nisation, he continues to mentor and coach some of Africa’s most influential CEOs, policymakers, and emerging political leaders. This recognition follows Prof. Boateng’s leadership as convenor of the inaugural Boardroom Governance Summit, the largest gathering of C-suite executives in Ghana and across Africa. Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the State Interests and Governance Authority, and IoD-Gh, the summit underscored governance as the foundation for building resilient organisations and driving sustainable development for the common good.
Prof. Boateng’s lifetime of contributions has earned him numerous accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from HP for his
