American hip-hop singer Robert Rihmeek Williams, popularly known as Meek Mill, says he has the desire to see Africans more united again like in the pre-slave trade era.

The rapper who was allowed to shoot an “R”-rated music video at the Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s government, has apologised and explained his reason, saying it wasn’t to disrespect Ghanaians.

According to Meek Mill, he has always wanted to connect with his African roots to understand their cultures, which to him, can be more achievable through his craft, music.

Meek’s apology, contained in a series of tweets shared on his Twitter handle in the late hours of Monday, January 9, revealed his zeal to promote Ghana on the American continent, where the country lacks publicity.

He wrote: “To the people of Ghana no video I drop is ever meant to disrespect the people of Ghana …. The fastest way to make connection is thru music and I wanted to do that with displaying art … im in my 30’s from America and didn’t know much about the lifestyle here.

“My apologies to the people if any disrespect! We still gonna push to make the connection between black people in America and Africa … what I’m trying to do is more than a video and you should see coming soon! My apologies to the office also!

“I don’t think they knew it was video footage when we asked to shoot it’s a small camera and one kid … in America, we didn’t know this existed and was excited to show because they don’t show Ghana on our media much! So I’ll take responsibility for my mistake! Not intentional

The celebrated musician concluded, “I’m just not here for no separation of anything black … we already separated enough and don’t understand each other’s cultures … let’s used this to help fix that and not more judgement towards each other!”

The matter got many Ghanaians upset with the rapper for disrespecting the security protocols of the seat ofgovernment.

The presidency also got its share of the rage as people blamed it for reducing the security establishment so low that the American rapper could shoot a video with explicit words, a chance no Ghanaian creative could ever get.
