Hearts of Oak inches closer top 4 after beating Ashgold 2-1

General

Hearts of Oak are now close to breaking into the top four of the Ghana Premier League standings after defeating Ashanti Gold SC 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Phobians despite being the defending champions of the Ghanaian top-flight league have struggled to really compete.

Today at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak hosted Ashanti Gold SC in a matchday 21 encounter of the season.

Looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Aduana Stars the last time out, the Phobians today set up strong as Coach Samuel Boadu pushed his men to chase the victory.

On the back of a bright start to today’s contest, a Daniel Afriyie Barnieh penalty kick converted in the 13th-minute handed Hearts of Oak the lead.

Unable to hold on to that lead, Ashanti Gold SC gradually gained confidence and took advantage of some chances created to restore parity through an equalizer from Aminu Adams.

With the first half of the game ending 1-1, the home team returned from recess and did enough to secure the maximum points.

It was all thanks to the second goal from Daniel Afriyie Barnieh in the 60th minute after a classy pass from Sulley Muntari.

Courtesy of today’s win, Hearts of Oak are 6th on the Ghana Premier League table and just two points away from breaking into the top four.
