Ghana Women’s Premier League (WPL) giants, Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies say their international friendly against Danish female giants, FC Nordsjælland is a huge boost to their pre-season preparations.

At the Nduom Park at Elmina on Saturday, the runners-up in the 2022 WPL season and runners-up at the maiden CAF Women’s Champions League will welcome FC Nordsjælland as part of the visitors’ pre-season exercise for the 2022/2023 season.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Hasaacas Coach Yusif Basigi described the encounter as a great opportunity to boost the credentials of the team.

“We are honored to host FC Nordsjælland considered a giant in Norway where the women’s game established its credentials in Europe.

“We are excited to welcome them and we look forward to a good game. After the disappointing end to our campaign last season, we are regrouping for the new season and there could not have been a better way to start than this international friendly. We really look forward to it on Saturday and we can assure you that it will be a good game,” Coach Basigi said.

This is the first game for either side as they begin their pre-season training and it will be the first time a European women’s club will be coming to Ghana and Africa for a friendly encounter.

The Danish club arrived in Ghana last Sunday and will use the period to also visit their sister club, Right to Dream Academy at Old Akrade in the Eastern Region.

FC Nordsjælland won the Danish Cup in 2020 and finished third in the Elite Divisionen in the same year.

Hasaacas Ladies, on the other hand, are four-time WPL champions, and last season, they set a new record by winning four titles on the trot — the WPL, the Women’s FA Cup, the First Lady’s Cup as well as went on to win the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B Women’s Champions League title before rounding up a highly successful season as runners up in Africa.
