GoldBod Initiates Licensing of Service Providers in Ghana’s Gold Sector

Accra: The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the commencement of licensing for Service Providers, effective today, Wednesday, 23 April 2025. This move is particularly aimed at stakeholders in Ghana’s gold trading sector.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued by Mr. Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer at GoldBod, highlighted that any Ghanaian aged 18 years and above, or a fully-owned Ghanaian company, is eligible to apply for a license. Applications can be submitted online via GoldBod’s official website, goldbod.gov.gh, or in person at their main office in Accra.

The statement detailed that the categories of licenses available for immediate application include Aggregator license, Self-financing Aggregator license, Buyer license (tier 2), and Buyer license (Tier 1). Other licenses such as Refining License, Smelting License, Fabrication License, Storage License, Transportation License, and Importation License will be open for applications in July 2025.

GoldBod has made all relevant information regarding their mandate, policies, and operations accessible on their website. They encourage potential applicants to read, understand, and accept the Terms and Conditions of a license prior to application.

Furthermore, the statement reiterated GoldBod’s previous directive requiring all foreigners to exit the local gold trading market by April 30, 2025. Non-compliance with this directive will be considered a punishable offense under the Ghana GoldBod Act, 2025 (ACT 1140). However, foreigners may apply to the Board to off-take gold from GoldBod.

In alignment with its regulatory mandate, GoldBod has emphasized that all gold traders must conduct transactions at the official Bank of Ghana (BoG) Reference Rate, available at www.bog.gov.gh. GoldBod expressed its commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to optimize national benefits from the gold sector and values public cooperation and feedback.
