ACCRA, The Council of State, a small body of eminent citizens which advises Ghana’s president on national issues, has advised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to appoint a Commission of Inquiry to kick-start the process for the creation of new regions (provinces) to add the country’s current 10 regions.
This follows a unanimous conclusion of the Council that there is substantial demand for the creation of new regions, after studying the petitions for their creation, said Nana Otuo Siriboe II, the council’s chairperson, during a meeting with the president at the latter’s Flagstaff House office here Tuesday.
The Council on June 29 received a communication from the President seeking its advice regarding the creation of new regions, as stipulated in the Constitution. The request was accompanied by copies of the petitions from the chiefs and people of Western, Northern, Brong-Ahafo and Volta Regions from where the demands for the creation of new regions had been the most vociferous.
