GHANA’S NEW PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES NOMINEES FOR CABINET POSTS

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana has named 13 persons as his first set of ministerial appointments to help him to deliver on his mandate to make Ghana prosperous and great.

The nominees include Yaw Osafo Maafo as Senior Minister; Albert Kan-Dapaah for National Security, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen at Trade and Industry and Ken Ofori-Atta for the Finance portfolio.

Others are Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto for Agriculture, Boakye Agyarko as Energy Minister, Dominic Nitiwul in Defence, Ambrose Dery for Interior and Shirley Ayorkor Botchway as Foreign Affairs Minister.

Also nominated were Gloria Akufo to be Attorney-General and Justice Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama at the Local Government Ministry, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh for Education and Kwaku Agyemang Manu in the Health portfolio.

President Akufo-Addo, who made the announcement at a media conference here Tuesday, said he had forwarded the nominations to the Speaker of Parliament for approval by the House.

He urged Parliament to work as expeditiously as possible to approve the nominations to enable him to form his government as soon as practicable for work to commence.
