ACCRA, MAY 24, GNA – DR HAFEZ ADAM TAHER THE DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL HEALTH COOPERATION AT THE TECHNICAL COORDINATING DEPARTMENT OF GHANA’S MINISTRY OF HEALTH (MOH), HAS BEEN APPOINTED AMBASSADOR OF HEALTH TOURISM DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAMIC COUNTIES FOR THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA.
THE AMBASSADORIAL APPOINTMENT BY THE HEALTH TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CENTER OF ISLAMIC COUNTRIES (HTDC), WHICH TOOK EFFECT FROM MAY 18TH, 2022, WILL LAST FOR A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS.
THE APPOINTMENT WAS ANNOUNCED DURING THIS YEAR, ONLINE BUSINESS NETWORKING MEETING, WHICH COINCIDED WITH THE 7TH SESSION OF GHANA – IRAN PERMANENT JOINT COMMISSION FOR COOPERATION HELD IN TEHERÁN, IRAN, FROM MAY 17TH TO 18TH, 2022 WHERE HE REPRESENTED THE MOH ON THE DELEGATION.
THE MEETING WAS ATTENDED BY SENIORS AND EXPERTS FROM THE GOVERNMENTAL AND PRIVATE SECTORS IN ISLAMIC COUNTRIES WHERE THEY SHARED THEIR LATEST ACHIEVEMENTS AND PRODUCTS AND DISCUSSED ISSUES, NEEDS AND IDEAS RELATED TO POTENTIALS OF IMPROVING ECONOMIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION.
THE EVENT WAS NOT ONLY FOR THE PLAYERS IN ISLAMIC COUNTRIES, BUT FOR OTHER COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATIONS ATTEMPTING TO WORK IN THIS HUGE MARKET IN NON-ISLAMIC COUNTRIES AS WELL.
DR TAHER SPEAKING TO THE GHANA NEWS AGENCY SAID THOUGH THE HTDC WAS INSTITUTED IN 2015, “I PICKED UP WITH MY INVOLVEMENT WHEN I PARTICIPATED FOR THE FIRST TIME AS THE ONLY BLACK AFRICAN IN NOVEMBER, 2020 AND DELIVERED A SPEECH, WHICH SOUGHT TO STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ISLAMIC COUNTRIES AND AFRICA.”
THE NETWORK HAS THE AIM OF PLAYING AN EFFECTIVE ROLE IN DEVELOPING ECONOMIC RELATIONS AND FACILITATING THE NETWORKS BETWEEN STAKEHOLDERS IN THE HEALTH INDUSTRY THROUGH ISLAMIC COUNTRIES.
IT HAS THE MISSION OF NETWORKING AND INTRODUCING THE CAPACITIES OF HEALTH, TOURISM, AND HEALTH TOURISM SECTORS IN THE ISLAMIC COUNTRIES
FOUNDED IN 2015, THE NETWORK CREATES SYNERGIES BETWEEN RELATED PLAYERS AND STAKEHOLDERS.
IT HAS A MEMBERSHIP OF 38 ISLAMIC COUNTRIES, PLUS, 10 FROM NON-ISLAMIC COUNTRIES.
DR TAHER TOLD THE GNA THAT FOR THE TWO-YEAR PERIOD AS THE COUNTRY’S AMBASSADOR, HE HOPED TO GET MANY MORE COUNTRIES TO JOIN THE NETWORKING IN THE AREA OF HEALTH TOURISM, “SUCH THAT, OUR COUNTRIES WILL BENEFIT FROM THE AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITIES THAT ALLOW US TO CREATE MORE JOBS FOR THE YOUTH.
“DEVELOPING THE HEALTH TOURISM AREA IS A VIRGIN ASPECT OF TOURISM WE HAVE NOT CRITICALLY CONSIDERED IN ORDER MAXIMISE THE OPPORTUNITIES TO RAKE IN REVENUES THAT WILL CONSEQUENTLY BOOST OUR ECONOMY.
PARTICULARLY, WHEN WE CAPITALISE ON THE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE IN THIS NETWORKING ARRANGEMENTS THAT ARE BEING OFFERED BY THE HEALTH TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CENTER FOR ISLAMIC COUNTRIES OF WHICH I HAVE BEEN AWARDED AS AN AMBASSADOR.”
HE NOTED THAT WITH SUCH OPPORTUNITIES, IT WILL CREATE MORE ACCESS TO THE MARKETS AND TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE IN THE ISLAMIC COUNTRIES IN THE AREA OF HEALTH TOURISM AND ITS RELATED AREAS AND OUR WE STAND THE CHANCE OF HAVING FUNDING SOURCES AND CAPACITY BUILDING FOR OUR PEOPLE. NOT JUST GHANA BUT AFRICA AS A WHOLE, “HE ADDED.
